FYI – one of the insurance companies that insures several of the CADC
members (at an exclusive rate to our members) has forwarded me information
on a different type of insurance package for legal coverage and costs just
in case 

 (lets hope NO ONE has to use it!!!)

Subject: Legal Defence Coverage

Hi Doug,

I recently met with a representative from DAS Canada who provides Legal
Defence coverage.  I have offered this coverage to the diving firms that I
currently insure as I believe it could provide quite valuable coverage.  It
is not your typical insurance policy, but a policy that will provide legal
assistance and coverage for legal costs.  It is a very popular coverage in
Europe and has been made available in Canada.  I have attached a brief
summary of the coverage for your review.  

One of the claims examples involves defence costs around Bill C-45 charges,
which I thought may be of particular interest to divers.  The policy
provides $200,000 coverage with and unlimited legal advice. The annual cost
is based on gross revenue and payroll costs – the minimum premium that would
apply to many of the smaller companies would be $400.

Like any policy, there are exclusions and the major exclusions are outlined
on the summary, but I do believe it still offers valuable coverage for
businesses.  There are also separate personal and automobile policies.
